Best AI Website Builder (2026): Speed Claims, Real Costs and Performance Data Compared

By Hyptor Lab

Hyptor evidence review: The best AI website builder — real costs, speed data and lock-in

“A website in 30 seconds.” Six AI website builders make some version of that promise. We checked the fine print: real prices, renewal costs, whether you can ever leave, and how fast their sites actually load for real visitors.

Evidence review of official pricing and help pages, HTTP Archive’s real-world performance data and Google’s guidance, checked 14 Oct 2026. Hyptor Lab’s timed build test is scheduled. No affiliate links. How we test

The short answer

Wix has the strongest real-world performance data; Squarespace and Framer follow. Hostinger is cheapest up front but locks you into 48 months and renews at nearly four times the price. Only 10Web lets you take your whole site with you.

Fastest real-world sites: Wix · Cheapest entry: Hostinger (with caveats) · Easiest to leave: 10Web · Free trial, no card: Squarespace · Confidence: Medium — prices and performance data verified; build-speed claims untested.

What they claim vs what the evidence shows

Their claimVerdictWhat the evidence shows
Wix: “get your own custom website in seconds” [1]OverstatedThe same page’s FAQ says it “typically takes just a few minutes” [1], and Wix’s help docs warn its AI “may produce unexpected or inaccurate results” [21].
Durable: “Get online in 30 seconds” [6]UntestedThe free plan gives a private preview on a durable.site subdomain [5]; a custom domain without Durable branding needs a paid plan. Our timed test will check the 30 seconds.
Hostinger: AI tools to “optimize for SEO” [3]Holds, with caveatsOnly 51.3% of Hostinger Website Builder sites pass Google’s Core Web Vitals on mobile, versus 80.9% for Wix [16]. Page speed is part of good SEO.

Why this matters

Small businesses usually pick a website builder once and live with it for years. The generation step takes minutes; the price after the intro deal, the site’s loading speed and whether you can ever move away last much longer.

How we built this verdict

We read each builder’s AI page, pricing and export documentation [1–15][20–22], pulled real-world Core Web Vitals data from the HTTP Archive for the September 2026 crawl [16], and checked Google’s current guidance on AI content [17–19]. Wix showed us regional (non-USD) prices, so we don’t quote a Wix price.

Wix sites load fastest for real visitors

PlatformMobile sites passing Core Web VitalsDesktop
Wix80.9% (of 177,709)87.1%
Squarespace71.0% (of 89,052)76.1%
Framer70.8% (of 11,319)87.9%
Hostinger Website Builder51.3% (of 4,952)81.1%
WordPress (for comparison)48.3%53.7%
HTTP Archive Tech Report, crawl of 1 Sep 2026 [16]. Covers each platform’s whole footprint, not only AI-built sites. Durable and 10Web aren’t tracked separately (10Web sites count under WordPress).

In practice: Core Web Vitals is Google’s measure of real-user loading and responsiveness. On mobile, Wix sites pass far more often; Hostinger’s weak point is how fast the main content appears (53.6% good, vs 84.8% for Wix) [16].

The surprise: “cheapest” can cost four times more later

Hostinger’s $2.99/month requires paying $143.52 upfront for 48 months — then it “Renews at $10.99/mo” [3]. It’s the only builder that publishes its renewal price at all; for the others we couldn’t find renewal terms. Ask before you commit.

Most builders make it hard to leave

Finding: a Wix site “needs to be hosted and operated on Wix’s servers” [11]. Squarespace exports only a partial WordPress file, without store, portfolio or styles [12]. Hostinger’s export omits styles, layout and SEO settings [13]. Framer has no native code export [14]. 10Web runs on WordPress and lets you “export the site any time” [9].

In practice: if you might move later, factor in a rebuild — or choose 10Web.

Will Google penalise an AI-built site?

Not for being AI-made. Google says the problem is using AI “to generate many pages without adding value for users” — what it calls scaled content abuse [17][18]. An AI-built site with genuine, accurate business information is fine; replace generic AI copy with your own specifics.

Where each one genuinely shines

Wix: best real-world performance data and a free plan [2][16]. Squarespace: no-card free trial and strong performance [4][16]. Framer: editable layouts for design-led sites [8]. Hostinger: lowest upfront monthly price [3]. Durable: fastest promised start [6]. 10Web: WordPress underneath, built-in SEO basics, and full export [9].

Which builder should you choose?

Local business wanting speed and reliability: Wix or Squarespace. Designer or portfolio: Framer. Want to own and move your site: 10Web. Tightest budget: Hostinger — but price the renewal in. Building an app rather than a site? See AI app builders.

Questions people ask

What is the best AI website builder?

On verifiable evidence, Wix leads on real-world performance [16] and 10Web on portability [9]. Build speed is still untested.

Is there a free AI website builder?

Wix, Framer and Durable offer free plans, with branding or a subdomain; Squarespace and 10Web offer trials [2][4][5][9][10].

Are AI-built websites good for SEO?

Google doesn’t penalise AI content as such [17], but performance varies by platform [16]. Replace generic AI text with real details about your business.

The verdict

“Seconds” is marketing; renewal prices, page speed and lock-in are what you live with. The decision: choose on real performance and exit options, check the renewal price, and rewrite the AI’s generic copy before you launch.
